ABOUT GSMT
The General Strike Montana is a state chapter of the General Strike U.S., a national decentralized movement with organizers across the country committed to a strike to demand political and economic reconstruction. The chapter, started in February 2025, is in a stage of growth, with approximately 50 active members and over 2,000 strike card commitments.
We have a broad list of demands, including but not limited to: Addressing the current threat on our democracy, removing corporate money from government, climate action, reproductive rights, workers' rights, immigration reform, gun safety, equitable taxes on the wealthy, affordable housing, voters' rights, healthcare reform, and more. Specific demands will come from community members and leaders of existing fights for racial, economic, gender, and environmental justice once we reach 6 million commitments nationally.
At this stage, we are building and strengthening a decentralized infrastructure through meaningful partnerships with existing unions, grassroots organizations, and community members across the state, as well as engaging in both digital and on-the-ground organizing to get the word out. Our goal is to have a chapter in every town across Montana, with members and partner groups working to bolster mutual aid networks, coordinate local actions, build the necessary community infrastructure to strike, and more.
